About Trakkit
Trakkit is a web-based frontend designed to visualize boat tracks using data produced by navigation systems.
Originally developed for real-time tracking of sailboats via Iridium GO, Trakkit has since evolved and now works with any system capable of sending positioning data, including:
- NMEA data streams
- GPX files
- TXT files
- Plain text emails containing GPS positions
Trakkit also supports direct uploads of GPX or NMEA files generated by popular navigation applications such as Navionics Boating, QtVlm, OpenCPN, and others.
How it works
At the core of Trakkit lies a dedicated track rendering engine.
The platform builds upon a combination of external technologies — both open source and proprietary — including mapping libraries and data providers such as Leaflet and OpenStreetMap.
This modular approach allows Trakkit to remain lightweight, flexible, and easy to integrate.
Philosophy
Trakkit is a free, non-commercial service.
It is not meant to be a bulletproof platform, nor a feature-heavy navigation suite.
Instead, its purpose is deliberately simple and practical:
To let you share your live position and preserve the tracks of your voyages with your boat.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
